This is Ontario’s first independent review in more than a generation to seek recommendations for legislative changes to the province’s Employment Standards Act and Labour Relations Act. I want to thank the special advisors C. Michael Mitchell and the Honourable John C. Murray for the hard work they put into this report, and for the care and thoughtfulness they demonstrated through their recommendations. Ontario to Provide the First Universal Drug Program of its Kind in Canada in 2018 As part of the 2017 Budget, Ontario is giving children and youth a better start in life by moving to make prescription medications free. Premier Kathleen Wynne was joined today by Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and Charles Sousa, Minister of Finance, at Jenner Jean-Marie Community Centre in Toronto to announce the new OHIP+: Children and Youth Pharmacare Program. Beginning January 1, 2018, all children and youth 24 years of age or younger will be able to get their prescription medications for free by simply showing their Ontario health card number and a prescription. Car insurance rates for Ontario drivers could increase as high as 7%

The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) has released the auto insurance rate approvals for the first quarter of 2017. For Ontario drivers, car insurance rates are increasing overall in the province by 1.24%. This compares to a 0.14 per cent decrease in the previous quarter. Even though approved rates increased 1.24 per cent, some drivers could see their rates go up as much as 7%, while others may see a decrease in the neighbourhood of 3%, as this is the range in rates approved this quarter. It all depends on who you have your coverage through. “Ontario has a very competitive marketplace,” FSCO says in its quarterly statement. “Rates for the same coverage vary based on each insurer’s claims experience and the insurer’s rating system.” As a result, FSCO urges consumers to shop around for auto insurance. It is more important than ever…read more →
